Some of you may know of J. Tillman as the drummer for the Fleet Foxes, but he is also a really good solo artist.

His newest solo record, Vacilando Territory Blues, will be available physically in January 2009 and is available to download now.

Tillman has an excellent voice and a song writing ability to match.  He demonstrates this through what is really a pretty varied album.

As is the hallmark of this feature, I’m going to shut up now and just let you listen for yourselves.

However, as time has passed we are beginning to see that last Tuesday was not just a day of progress, but also a day of regression.  Most notably in California where Prop 8 passed, amending the state Constitution to ban gay marriage.  Similar bans were passed in Florida and Arizona.  In Arkansas a measure passed that essentially banned gay adoption.

It is so disheartening that on a day when it seemed our country was making great strides forward in civil rights, that at the same time it was disenfranchising another group.  I am absolutely disgusted by this legalized bigotry and the cowardice of our American leadership.

I know that plenty of people have already put in their two cents on this matter, and I don’t intend on regurgitating what has already been said.  What I really wanted to point out today, is how important it is for the suppressed to have allies.  During the Civil Rights movement of the 1960’s it took white allies to put an end to segregation.  It was with the partnership of men that women got the right to vote.  And it will take the help of straight Americans to end the discrimination against gay Americans.

So, as a Straight man let me be very clear in saying that I am an ally.  I hope that we can all join the fight to end the legalisation of discrimination in our great country.

The culmination of years of work and struggle ends with one day, today.   It is not the beginning of the end, but rather the end of the beginning.  There is far more work to be done, many more hardships to be overcome, but today is the day that we will change our communities, our cities, our states, our country, and our world.

I’m going to shake it up a little bit today, rather than doing my usual review of a single artist or song today I’m going to post some of the best Election/Campaign songs.
